Background Information:

I have been a Primary practitioner in the London Borough of Brent since 1986. I have taught throughout the Primary range and have been Art and Design post holder as well as Science leader. For the past 6 years I have been the EYFS leader at Byron Court and have led my phase through two OFSTED inspections where the outcomes have been graded as ‘good’ leading to ‘outstanding’ (2012). Teachers and Teaching Assistants in the EYFS at Byron Court are consistently graded good and above through our rigorous framework of monitoring and self-evaluation. We have worked together to create a stimulating and lively environment which promotes child initiated learning as well as encouraging the key skills of literacy and numeracy. We track children’s progress through Learning journeys and now electronically using ipads and a software package. We are currently working together with schools in the BTSA to introduce the EYFS baseline materials in our settings. 

In 2013-4 I undertook training in ECERS (Early Years Environment Rating Scales) I have since used this to improve the Early Years environment at school and to train others to use the tool to evaluate their practice. 

From September 2014 I have worked to set up two Reception bulge classes at Ashley Gardens, a satellite site, to meet the increased demand for school places. This has broadened my skills set giving me the experience of creating an Early Years environment and working with a team of practitioners to address the challenge that bulge classes bring. 

I also have many years’ experience in School Governorship in Brent and Harrow and volunteer running workshops with children and families in my own community. 

How I can support: 

I am very excited by the prospect of being able to share my experience and expertise with others to improve practice and enhance children’s education, as well as drive up standards. Through school to school support I will be able to share my knowledge and skills. 

I can provide support with action planning, policy writing, setting up portfolios for assessment and monitoring progress, both written and electronic, support with creating enabling environments through my ECERS training and, new for 2015-6, support with the implementation of the EYFS baseline materials.

Background information:

I have 23 years’ experience working in Early Years in Nursery and Reception classes abroad in Kenya, Harrow, Hillingdon and Brent. In my previous employment I led in Early Years and Science and have now led Early Years for 9 years through two OFSTED: one outstanding at St. Bernadette’s Catholic Primary in Harrow and one judged as good after 1 year in my current school.

 As Communication, Language and Literacy Consultant for three years in Harrow, I have worked in 24 schools providing advice, challenge and support to Practitioners, Senior Leaders and Headteachers on EYFS practice and Quality First Teaching. Evaluations from schools indicate the sustained impact of my work from identification to action planning with Leaders to modelling, implementing and evaluation.

 The impact of my work has been recognised at class, school and National level; class and school outcomes are consistently higher than local and National averages. (72% Good Level of Development). HMI Communication, Language and Literacy Development Report 2011 noted ‘ the high quality and significant impact of the CLLD Consultant is evident in practice and outcomes for children in many schools in Harrow’. I directly worked in 10 schools which had the lowest 20% attainment. Within 1 year 7 schools had increased EYFS attainment between 10% - 26%.

 Completion of Leadership and Management and Coaching and Mentoring modules at Hertfordshire at Masters level has provided me with the theoretical knowledge which underpins the skills required for successful school to school support. One teacher said in her feedback, ‘You walk the talk as you model lessons tailored to our children and provide the resources for us to move on and make rapid changes’.

 I am relentless and passionate about improving children’s life chances through continuous improvement of EYFS practice and enabling practitioners at all levels to pursue maintaining high standards.
